Different and equal: World Vision announces a new project to combat gender-based violence and prenatal sex selection in Armenia

On the 9th of December World Vision Armenia announced the launch of “Caring for Equality” project which will be implemented in the country at national level to support the creation of  an environment that promotes policies combatting gender-based violence and prenatal sex selection in the country. The project will also work at community level aiming to change social norms.

"Caring for Equality" project will be implemented in Gegharkunik, Aragatsotn, Tavush, Shirak marzes of Armenia, as well as in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative unit of the capital Yerevan; here in these areas World Vision Armenia has  long term development programmes and competent teams.

Project seeks to change attitudes and prevent behaviour that is harmful to women and girls. It seeks to create an environment where girls and boys are born and valued equally. 

During the 5-year period of project operations World Vision will also run a social campaign called “Different and equal”, thus spreading  messages via traditional and digital channels to reach the targeted audience.

World Vision partners with the Government of Armenia, regional and local authorities, international and local organizations, Armenian Church, education and health establishments, local and regional women and child protection bodies and networks to effectively implement its projects.

The project will capitalize on the role of community-based social workers especially in early identification and prevention of causes related to gender-based violence  and prenatal sex-selection issues in the households.
