On UN World Environment Day, we look at how World Vision is working with communities across Asia to restore environments that have been harmed, protect healthy environments, and systematically build good environments to make them progressively stronger and healthier.

1: Cambodia World Vision works to empower communities and families, like Chhaliheng's, through sustainable natural resources management and livelihood enhancement. His story

2: Timor-Leste World Vision’s Bobonaro Acts Against Climate Change project started in 2012 with the installation of a plant nursery. Mahogany, teak, and citrus seedlings are helping restore the landscape and increase the incomes of local farmers. Learn more about one of them, Agapito

3: Vietnam Anh’s parents received training to practice sustainable agriculture with ecological farming. They have been expanding their farm by raising pigs, ducks, and fish. The family produces their own biogas too. Anh's shares his story

4: India Bamandeh is a remote village surrounded by disappearing forestlands in Rajasthan. World Vision implemented the Climate Change Project in the village by providing fuel-efficient wood-stoves, biogas, and solar home lighting. Children also learn about the importance of environmental protection and conservation, through various 'learn with fun' approaches. Children are also encouraged to plant, nurture, and protect trees.Visit this community through photos

5. Indonesia Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration is a low-cost land restoration technique used to combat poverty and hunger amongst poor subsistence farmers by increasing food and timber production and resilience to climate extremes. Learn how this technique is helping Marinus' family and friends

6. Philippines These little environment activists developed an initiative to plant mangrove seedlings along a coastal area in their community. The planting activity is part of World Vision’s disaster risk reduction (DRR) programme, in partnership with other community leaders. Read more of their story

7. China At the only primary school in a village in Du'an County, Guangxi Province, students lacked basic understanding of environmental protection, leaving garbage everywhere. After training and advocacy lead by World Vision, things started to change. See more photos from their school

8. Papua New Guinea Urbanization is forcing growing communities and villages including Big Village to use existing or ad hoc alternative sanitation practises that are poor, unsafe and over time costly. World Vision recently launched Hanuabada Ranu Bona Mauri Namona Gaukara or Water and Healthy Life Project. Learn more
