World Vision Burundi donates drugs and medical equipment

On Monday January 26, 2015, World Vision Burundi supported the Burundi Ministry of Public Health with drugs and medical equipment worth 6.7 million US dollars.

The drugs which mostly treat respiratory diseases will mainly be used to take care of children and mothers.

The drugs which mostly treat respiratory diseases will mainly be used to take care of children and mothers, Sabine Ntakarutimana, Minister of public health said. In Burundi respiratory diseases are among the first killers of under five children. 

The medical equipment are made up of dental chairs, expensive equipment for the government to provide to all health facilities in need,

On behalf of the government, Sabine, thanked World Vision for the assistance.

The Minister of Health asked World Vision to provide capacity building for the medical agents on how to operate the dental equipment.

Albert Siminyu, the National Director of World Vision Burundi said that the drugs and dental chairs were made available thanks to donors from the United States.

These priority pharmaceuticals and medical equipment will obviously contribute to enabling the Burundian government health facilities to strengthen the quality of health care services, Albert, said in his speech.

World Vision Burundi is assisting in the country's several sectors including water and sanitation, Education, Food Security, Economic Development, Child Protection and advocacy and Nutrition. In the domain of health, these last two years World Vision Burundi mostly focused on constructing and equipping health facilities and community management of illnesses like child malnutrition and malaria.
