World Vision closes out project on improving life for people living with HIV

World vision Ethiopia in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) marked the successful completion of Preventive Care Package Program for people living with HIV project on 29 November 2016 at Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa.

The project started in 2011 in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of health and regional health Bureaus, with the aim of reducing morbidity and mortality due to opportunistic infections among people living with HIV, provide prevention and care package kits, and promote the use of basic hygiene practices. A total budget of 9.677,000 USD, including 1.2 million USD in private match funding from World Vision US was invested to make the project successful.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Edward Brown, the national director of World Vision Ethiopia said, “It has been a great opportunity to partner with USAID and the government of Ethiopia to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of PLHIV. I would like to sincerely thank the Federal ministry of health, regional health bureaus and implementing facilities for collaboration and partnership for ensuring the smooth implementation of the program”. 

 “More than 10 million vulnerable people in Ethiopia are benefiting directly or indirectly from World Vision programs,” Mr. Edward continued, “While statics provide evidence of impact, ultimately what motivates us is to help improve the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in Ethiopia. WVE will continue to work with USAID, the government of Ethiopia and international and national NGOs, Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and Faith Based Organizations (FBO),” he added.

Similarly, Mrs. BetAnne Moskov, USAID health office chief said “The preventive care package shows that simple and sustainable approaches to HIV can maximize HIV prevention, care and treatment outcomes. We are committed to continuing our work for better health outcomes in Ethiopia”.  She also thanks, world vision Ethiopia and its partners for their contribution to improving the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

World Vision implemented the project in 303 health facilities and 150 PLHIV associations in, Oromia, Amhara, the SNNPR, Tigray Regional States and, Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa cities’ administration. Preventive Care Package project provided services to more than 300 health facilities throughout Ethiopia to help mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS. The project also improved the quality of life of nearly to 400,000 people living with HIV and their families by providing a preventive care package and information on nutrition and treatment.

World Vision Ethiopia has signed Memorandum of Understanding with all implementing regions to ensure a smooth transition, program hand over and sustainability.

Close to 200 people including partners, government officials and beneficiaries of the project have attended the closure ceremony.
