Daniel, 39, is a farmer and a trader with four children in Kparekpare, a community in Krachi East District in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is a member of Kparekpare Savings Group and has become very successful as a result of been an active member of the group. The Savings Group and Loan Scheme is a community based savings and loan programme introduced by World Vision to assist the poor in rural communities.

Daniel is a member of Kparekpare Savings Group and has become very successful as a result of been an active member of the group.

Daniel only used to depend on the income of his farm produce and petty trade to cater for his children who are all in a primary school in Krachi. He used to spend almost half of his meagre income on transport to deposit his money in a bank in Dambai Community.

A year ago, a community member who happened to be the Chair of Kparepkapre Savings Group advised Daniel to be part of the Kparekpare Savings Group in order to enable him to easily save the little income he will earned from his trade and farm. He was not convinced enough because he did not trust how it could work out. After sometime, he decided to try if he can benefit and save enough.

Few months after he joined the group and became an active member, he received an amount of GH¢ 3,720.00 as a shared-out on his turn. “I have been able to use some of the money to pay the arrears of my children’s school fees. I have bought a tricycle which I now use to transport goods from one community to another. I have also used some of the money to buy more provisional items to expand my trading business” he said.

“I can now boast that I have three sources of income, which is from the farm, provision store, and the use of the tricycle to transport goods."

“I can now boast that I have three sources of income, which is from the farm, provision store, and the use of the tricycle to transport goods. I am also the only one who has been able to own a brand new tricycle in this community and I now earn enough to take very good care of my children” he added, emphasizing that he will go a long way to save for his children as well in a bank to be able to lay a secure and safe foundation for the future of his children.

Daniel has gone a long way with the Savings Group and he is now their secretary. He has been able to form two different Savings Groups which he now facilitates.

“I am very grateful to World Vision for introducing the Saving Group to Kparekpare community” he appreciated, using this platform to advise other community members to try as much as possible to join Savings Groups.
