World Vision Signs MoU with Right to Play

World Vision Ghana signed a memorandum of understanding with Right to Play regarding the funding and implementation of innovative approaches in WASH to enhance sustainability of WASH facilities and promote hygiene and sanitation in Ghana. The provision of water, sanitation and hygiene services is an important means to achieving the broader goals of poverty reduction and economic growth in the areas where both organisations operate. 

The MoU will therefore seek to roll over the following activities.

a. Organize orientation and sensitization sessions with School authorities, Community Leaders, Water and Sanitation Management Teams as well as other District stakeholders in Education, Health, Water and Sanitation and Environmental Health

b. Capacity building for project beneficiaries (Teachers, Community Volunteers (WSMT members) Community WASH groups, Junior Leaders, school health club leaders, Child Parliament members, Young Ambassadors, youth….) on the following using play and sports based approaches.

c. Deliver weekly life skills, hygiene and sanitation related play and sports based activities both in school and within intervention communities for children and youth especially girls.

d. Strengthen school based health club mechanisms in areas of intervention to promote knowledge and skills of parents, and community members to promote Hygiene and child protection practices.

e. Play and sport community mobilization activities in the communities to achieve desired education, health and hygiene impacts in children and youth.

f. Joint community and school sensitizations and advocacy for WASH programmes using play as a tool 

g. Provide monitoring and assessment visits as needed to ensure that resources and training delivered by RTPG are aligned with sport for development tracking (Right To Play’s methodology and standards of delivery) as well as  National Standards and Implementation Model for WASH in Schools.

At the ceremony, the National Director of World Vision Ghana, Hubert Charles emphasised the need to give lots of attention to the WASH and Savings Group interventions. According to Mr. Charles, most families’ lives will improve when they have access to potable water, good sanitation practices, as well as easy access to economic empowerment.

In her response, Mrs. Ethel Sackitey, Country Director of Right to Play Ghana confirmed her organisation was commitment to improving water and sanitation situation in the different areas of operations for both organisations.

The ceremony which took place at the offices of World Vision ended with members of both organisations taking pictures.
