Little emergency response team from Sidodadi

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

The situation at the primary school was getting uneasy because the rain had not stopped falling since the previous afternoon. The students were studying in their classroom.

In few minutes, the water started to come in. Water was suddenly everywhere.

Not keeping quiet, Hilmi, a fifth grader came out from his class. He called out to his friends, the members of Little Emergency Response Team in his school to gather in a safe classroom. As a chief of Little Emergency Response Team, he directs the members to help with evacuation and the health team to carry on their duties.

"Each team should carry their duty. Ready, go!" Hilmi said loudly.

The evacuation team comes into classroom and asks each student to cover their books, bags, and shoes with a plastic bag. In another class, the health team evacuates an injured student and takes them into UKS (School Health Unit) to get medical treatment.

Meanwhile the information team brings students to meet with their parents who have waited for them at the school gate. Although they are still children, the members of Little Emergency Response are brave in carrying out their duty. In less than one hour, all students in the school have been successfully evacuated. They are now in a safe place.

Fortunately, this is only an emergency simulation.

There is no real flood but through the simulation conducted on May 29, Hilmi and his friends practiced how to save others. The team consists of fourth and fifth grade students who often conduct emergency simulations so that they will be ready whenever a real emergency happens.

As the chief, Hilmi learned many things from Little Emergency Response Team.

"I learn how to prevent flood. We can't cut down trees carelessly," said the 11 years old boy.

The brave Hilmi feels ready whenever disaster happens because Wahana Visi Indonesia in Simokerto Operational Office keeps assisting him and his team so that they would be ready to be deployed in emergency situation.

Besides, Hilmi and friends learn to preserve the environment and prevent flood. They keep studying and training hard to save others and save their environment.
