Day of African Child Lesotho

The Day of African Child (DAC) presents an opportunity for all Stake-holders on children’s rights, including government, non-governmental and international entities, to reflect on issues affecting children.

Maseru, Lesotho; 16 June 2014, World Vision Lesotho through Child Protection & Advocacy unit, participated at the Commemoration of the Day of African Child, which commenced with a march from the National Stadium to ST. Kizito RC Primary school at Lower Thamae in Maseru.

The event was attended by the Ministers of Education and Training 'Makabelo Mosothoane, Social Development 'Matebatso Doti, and development partners; World Vision, UNICEF, Action AID, Management Sciences for Health and a few others.

Speaking on behalf of children across the country at the DAC, Hloaisi Motseki from Pitseng ADP thanked the government for implementing Early Childhood Education, giving access to education for children with disability.

Motseki acknowledged the efforts by the government to implement quality education which is gender sensitive. He however highlighted some of the challenges. "ECCD teachers are however not well capacited, as a result they lose motivation easily."

He also said classrooms built by the government are not user friendly for the children with disabilities. He therefore requested the government to enforce the education act in favour of children's education.
