Non Food Items to ease living conditions of IDPs in Dialloube

Though Mali held both peaceful presidential and parliamentary election in 2013, and signed some peace agreements in 2015, all those actions did not totally end the nationalist and Islamist fight for control in the country’s North. Innocent victims among populations are still being counted everyday due to repetitive armed group actions.

Following the report of the Regional Directorate for Social Development of Mopti in collaboration with International Organization of Migration, released on June2nd 2015; World Vision carried out its own rapid assessment on June 9th 2015in collaboration with Dialloube local municipality and village council confirming the increasing number of displaced population in the region. The report highlights that displaced persons lack minimum shelter facilities, they need food, children are severely malnourished, and they do not have access to clean water, hygiene and health care facilities. Within 10 days, WV responded to the need of 412 displaced households through the distribution of Non Food Items. Families received jerry can, mats, set of kitchen utensils, soaps, basins and kettles, buckets, mosquito nets, bed covers, blankets and lamp torch.

When Aissata, a mother of 5 children received her bundle of articles, she told us: “Before I receivethese tools, I was using an old calabash, which could not contain enough water. Now I can fetch water and keep it safely in the jerry can I received. The blanket and cover are crucial to protect my children from the cold wind especially now that  the rainy season is coming”.
The representative of the mayor of Dialloube, Seydou Diall expressed his satisfaction for NFI distribution and appealed for food distribution to further assist the vulnerable populations who live off the good will of generous people: “the distribution of Non Food Items is very significant for the displaced persons. It is also a real relief for the local community who is providing assistance with their little means. The displaced persons fled their homes empty-handed and they completely rely on the host community. Your donation has tremendously reduced their  difficulties but they are greatly in need of food to ensure their survival and that of their children. Please help them with food”.

The displaced population is grateful for this quick response and is asking for further assistance as their food need grows every day. Yah Traore is a mother of 3 children, displaced from Tombouctou region: “We thank WV for the Non Food Items we received. We also need food to feed ourselves and our children. I can’t breastfeed my baby since 2 days, because I have not    been eating and so I have no milk”.

Though WV assistance was meaningful, Dialloube still counts hundreds of displaced households and children who need quick and substantial food aid and materials.
