Prema,18, and her friends who were once sponsored through World Vision’s programme in Lalitpur are now equipped with skills to teach and facilitate young children in early childhood education and development centres.

Completing her month long training from the Early Childhood Education Centre in the capital which is recognised by the government and Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training Prema says, “I am very happy that I have a job now and I am thankful to World Vision for giving me this opportunity to learn and earn with the training I have acquired.”

Prema is already working as a facilitator in a school during the day while she continues her bachelor’s degree in management, attending college in the mornings.

Through the Lalitpur Youth Development Project, many boys and girls from semi-urban poor households in the Kathmandu valley are learning to become early child development facilitators, tailors, chefs, electricians, beautician, mobile repairers and accountants.

To date, World Vision has provided vocational training to 222 children including former-sponsored children from seven Village Development Committees in Lalitpur district.

The goal is to ensure children who were previously sponsored are prepared for economic opportunities.
