World Vision Uganda donates scholastic materials to 600 UPE schools

World vision Uganda has donated scholastic materials worth 1.2b Uganda shillings to serve 600 Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools across Uganda. This was announced on Monday, 13th, June, 2016 during a press conference held at the World Vision Uganda National Office.

 “World Vision Uganda is passionate about children and their education and it looks forward to seeing that children have access to the right scholastic materials”, said the National Director of World Vision Uganda, Mr Gilbert Kamanga, who handed over the materials to the ministry of education’s Dr. Tony Mukasa, the Basic Education Commissioner.

“The organisation aims at expanding and helping more children go to school by buying scholastic materials in bulks to serve more schools. The materials include rulers, text books, protractors and charts for children with the main focus on focus on UPE schools”, he added.

“Teachers should engage with children and make good use of the books to help them learn how to read even after school hours”, Mr Kamanga concluded.

 The Basic Education Commissioner, Dr. Tony Mukasa commented that quality education is the thing of focus for all and acknowledged World Vision’s support for children. “Our children, our future”, he said. He extended the ministry of education’s gratitude to World Vision in helping districts that are lacking educationally.

“Quality education is drawing close to reach for many children with World Vision’s support and therefore, I appeal to the schools’ head teachers to use the books efficiently”, Dr Mukasa said.

In his speech, the World Vision Education specialist, John Tereraho, said that the education facilities are targeted to primary schools to improve the quality of education for children. He further acknowledged the organisation’s effort to support children at school.

 “The program is schemed to benefit 624 schools in districts that include Bugiri, Gulu, Bundibugyo, Butaleja, Busia, Tororo, Nakasongola, Bulisa, Kibaale and Offaka districts”, he added.  

 “World Vision Uganda plans to offer more books including primary 3 and primary 5 in the future to support UPE schools within World Vision Uganda operation areas”, Mr Tereraho said.
