Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - Local authorities will regularly update the number of children and their issues in a child management book so as to identify their difficulties and provide them with timely assistance in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City. It’s the first time the work has been implemented in the city.

The initiative was announced when the Child Care and Protection Committee of the district made its debut on March 19. World Vision’s Urban Area Development Programme (UADP) District 4 has backed up the work.

“We highly appreciate World Vision’s support, notably in training our volunteers on managing the books of children living in their areas. This will set a good example for other districts in the city since such book hasn’t been done elsewhere,” says Nguyen Van Tinh, an official of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Department of the city.

More than 80 officials and leaders from relevant agencies at city- and district-level participated in the meeting. They also learnt about World Vision’s experiences from the implementation of similar model in Danang city and Quang Tri province.

At the end of the meeting, all key leaders committed to organising training courses on the child management book for their volunteers and members of local child care and protection committees at their wards. Currently, about 250 volunteers are working on child care and protection in the district.
