World Vision, in cooperation with local agencies, organised many activities to respond to World Environment Day, aiming to raise local awareness of environmental protection and climate change adaptation in early June.

At a festival held in Quang Tri province on June 3, communications groups including children, through folk songs, role-plays, paintings and photos, illustrated their messages on environmental protection and introduced environment-friendly models such as biogas use, innovated cookers and rubbish gathering.

Highlights were put on local awareness of household rubbish classification, which will reduce waste discharged to the environment and make use of organic waste for cultivation and animal raising.

“We have joined a lot of environmental protection activities at school, such as planting trees, cleaning our school and helping our schoolmates understand sanitation. With our display corner, we want adults to recognise our work and know our dreams of a cleaner environment,” says Duong Minh Quang, an eighth grader.

Before the event which was attended by 500 people, banners and mobile awareness sessions on the topic were conducted throughout the district.

Those activities are parts of the Enabling Environmental Protection in Trieu Phong district grant project which is jointly funded by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the KEB Sharing Foundation, a non-profit arm of the Korea Exchange Bank.

In Thanh Hoa, the “Coastal Areas of Thanh Hoa Province Resilient to Natural Disasters” (CATREND) grant project cooperated with local authorities to hold a similar meeting at Hai Tien beach, which were participated by 250 local leaders and community members.

After the meeting, local women took the lead in clearing the coastal area, which also involved the participation of local ship owners and tourists.
