Operating in PNG has many challenges including high levels of poverty, inadequate infrastructure, high levels of violence across ethnic groups and against women and children, and strong cultural attitudes, such as sorcery, which hinders development. Despite these challenges, World Vision works closely with communities, the government and local partners to create long-lasting change.

World Vision started working in PNG in 1974 and uses an integrated approach to help communities deal with immediate problems, like malnutrition and disease, as well as the underlying causes of poverty such as unemployment, illiteracy and drug and alcohol dependency.
World Vision PNG (WVPNG) operates in several provinces and focuses on health and nutrition, tuberculosis (TB) treatment and prevention, water, sanitation and hygiene, HIV/AIDS, gender equality, education, economic development and disaster risk reduction.
