World Food Programme Partnership

PARTNERSHIP PURPOSE & HISTORY

For more than 30 years, World Vision and the World Food Programme (WFP) have partnered around a shared vision for a hunger-free world for the world’s most vulnerable children, families and communities. Together, World Vision and WFP provide assistance to disaster-affected people to save lives, improve health and education, and empower vulnerable communities to become self-reliant, now and in future.

WFP values World Vision’s deep relationships with disaster-affected communities, broad operational excellence and strong risk management systems. As WFP’s largest implementing NGO partner for more than 18 years, WFP trusts our ability to deliver many high quality programmes across a range of sectors in the hardest to reach places.

The two organisations also now have an extensive network of strategic, operational relationships at the national, regional and global levels.

OVERVIEW OF KEY PROGRAMMES

Last year, (FY21),  WFP-World Vision partnership reached more than 11.5 million of the world’s most vulnerable children, women and men, across 31 countries. More than 50 per cent of beneficiaries were children. Of World Food Programme’s support, 84% was used to improve the lives of children and their families in the fragile contexts where World Vision works.

BETTER TOGETHER

World Vision and WFP also have a long history of strategic engagements that support the 2030 Agenda’s promise to ‘leave no-one behind’. These include joint membership in key humanitarian co-ordination platforms and processes (e.g. clusters, IASC, CaLP, etc.) and joint advocacy events at global decision-making forums (UNGA, ECOSOC-HAS)

Furthermore, World Vision has signed on to the Famine Mitigation and Prevention Compact, that reflects a shared vision and joint commitment to scale up collective advocacy action over the next twelve months to prevent and mitigate famine and starvation. It commits us to raise alarm bells and share emerging stories from the ground, in every possible place, to ensure the tragedy unfolding gets the attention and action it deserves.
