We pray for the world to take action

On 21 May 2017 people of faith gathered worldwide for the Global Day of Prayer to End Famine, and we continue to pray. Every week, during the life of this crisis, we will continue to share a prayer that we invite you to integrate into your own prayer life.

This week, we pray for the world to take action. 

We are disappointed that world leaders did not do more to take action at the G7 Summit last week.

As a world, we still have only met 36 per cent of the funding needed to address the crisis facing South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen.

The world urgently needs to address the needs of 20 million people on the brink of starvation. In 2011, famine killed 260,000 people in Somalia — half before famine was officially declared. This must not be allowed to happen again. We daringly pray for the world to address and protect the 3.5 million children facing acute malnutrition, and for leaders to act now before it is too late.

“But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” -1 John 3:17-18 (ESV)

Loving Father, let our world be moved to compassion and great conviction as millions of your children cry out in hunger and desperation. You know each and every child by name, and we believe that you abundantly provide even in the hardest to reach places. We pray specifically for leaders to move quickly and efficiently in response to the hunger crisis affecting millions in South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen.
