Buikwe District commits to End Violence Against Children

Different stakeholders in Buikwe district including government officials, civil society organisations, local and faith based leaders, police, the army, children and the community joined hands with World Vision to commit and say no to violence against children.

The event was held at Buikwe district local government offices were presided over by the State Minister for Trade and Industries, Hon. Michael Werikhe who represented the Speaker of Parliament for Uganda. Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga. In a speech read for her, Kadaga implored all stakeholders to accelerate all actions towards ending violence against children in Uganda especially in Buikwe district for  sustained wellbeing of children. 

Buikwe district was previously known for having the highest number of incidents related to child sacrifice in Uganda. After World Vision intervention , child sacrifice cases have since reduced from 12 in 2012 to 2 cases in 2017.

World Vision is running a global campaign, It Takes A World to End Violence Against Children. In Uganda,  World Vision is committed to three areas of ending violence against children including; ending child sacrifice, ending early marriages and ending violence in schools.
