Global Fund Partnership

PARTNERSHIP PURPOSE & HISTORY

World Vision has been in partnership with The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for over a decade. Our collaboration works towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 to 'ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages', by reducing global maternal mortality, ending preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 and ending the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), malaria and other diseases by 2030.

During its 14-year partnership with The Global Fund, World Vision has been the principal recipient of around 20 grants funding solutions for HIV and AIDS, TB and malaria in ten countries and a sub-recipient on upward of 90 grants supporting programming for all three diseases in every region of the world. The Global Fund’s investments often leverage additional funds from World Vision’s private donors to fight these diseases. World Vision has always worked closely with local communities and national partners within the guidance of national health strategies to achieve outstanding results with Global Fund investments.

OVERVIEW OF KEY PROGRAMMES

Where World Vision is a primary recipient, grants usually have national coverage and scale. Grant results included training hundreds of health workers, strengthening health systems from national through the community level, mobilizing communities and local level leaders to reach tens of thousands with life-saving behavioural messages, and impacting millions of people with proven disease prevention and control practices such as sleeping under a long-lasting insecticide treated bed net, or access to diagnosis and treatment. As a Sub-Recipient, World Vision often has a smaller coverage but delivers a number of integrated and innovative interventions, often focusing on the most vulnerable groups including young women and adolescent girls, as in the Malawi HIV grant, or the prison population as in the Kenya TB grant, underserved migrants in Thailand or very remote communities in the Haiti HIV grant.

In 2018, our partnership reached nearly 24 million direct beneficiaries with life-saving prevention and treatment and services.

BETTER TOGETHER

This partnership, however, is about much more than the life-changing impact facilitated by Global Fund grant-funded programming implemented by World Vision. Our institutions also support one another’s efforts to improve the work we do. World Vision staff actively engage in  the Global Fund governance at Board level and in Country Coordinating Mechanisms advocating for policies and strategies that guarantee equity, increased access to medicines and services, and empowered participation of civil society, including women and girls and key populations in Global Fund investments generally. Global Fund and World Vision headquarters staff visit each other frequently to jointly review our performance, solve challenges consider ways to improve our programmatic quality and impact.
