Floods alert: East Africa Region, World Vision response plan

In Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, World Vision aims to provide 250,000 people affected by flooding and Tropical Storm Sagar with assistance.

The needs are immense: 

  • 700,000 people have been displaced by flooding in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia
  • 670,000 people have been affected by Tropical Storm Sagar in Somalia and Ethiopia
  • Thousands of homes, schools, health care centres have been damaged and destroyed
  • Livestock have been washed away and crops have been destroyed

World Vision is responding, and is requesting an additional $4,991,050 to reach those in need. With support, we will provide the following assistance:  

  • Shelter and non-food items: 73,000 people targetted with essential relief items
  • Education and protection: 32,450 children targetted with education activities and support, 16,000 people targetted with protection assistance
  • Health and nutrition: 108,542 people targetted with health services, 63,150 children and women targetted with nutrition assistance
  • Clean water, sanitation and hygiene: 163,797 people targetted with access to clean water, along with sanitation and hygiene services 
  • Livelihood support: 93,750 people targetted in programmes to help families earn an income and with cash based programming
