In the rural communities of Namwala District, early marriage remains a significant barrier to education for many girls. However, through the Empowering Vulnerable Children with Education (EVE) project, supported by World Vision, the Education Above All Foundation’s Educate A Child program, and FAWEZA, change is happening.

For years, pupils at Masamba Day Secondary School in Mbala District faced significant challenges in their pursuit of education. Overcrowded classrooms, a lack of proper sanitation facilities, and an inadequate water supply made learning difficult. However, through the persistent efforts of the Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) Committee, the school now boasts a newly constructed 1x3 classroom block, an ablution block, and a mechanized water system—funded through the Ministry of Education and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

At Maiko Mpange Primary School, seeing children sitting on the floor during lessons was once a daily reality. With limited classroom space and a shortage of desks, students struggled to concentrate, affecting their performance and enthusiasm for learning.

For 17-year-old Gladys, attending school used to be a daily struggle. As a student at Masamba Secondary School in Zambia, she often faced challenges that made learning difficult. One of the biggest obstacles was the lack of access to clean water.

In Misengo Village, Annie Bwalya Kapasa is a source of hope for expectant mothers. As a dedicated member of the Safe Motherhood Action Group (SMAG), Annie has been transforming maternal and child health in her community since she joined in 2015. Her journey took a significant turn in 2019 when World Vision Zambia provided her with specialized training, equipping her with the skills to support pregnant women and young mothers.

This article illustrates the celebration of Africa School Feeding Day in Gemena, where World Vision implements its development programme. Together with community members, children, parents, and local authorities, World Vision raised awareness of the importance of school meals, which directly impact school performance, reducing absenteeism and combating hunger and malnutrition. All the participants in this activity promised to advocate and mobilise in favour of school meals.
