Tamara’s speech at Human Rights Council 46th session

Monday, March 1, 2021

Tamara, aged 16, a young leader from Brazil, speaks at the Human Rights Council 46th session of the Human Rights Council on the Annual full-day meeting on the rights of the child. She conveys a strong message on human rights to the international community, and calls for action to redress inequality, injustice and discrimination. Tamara’s statement follows consultations made by children and young people to inform the 2021 report of the UN Human Rights Commissioner’s Office on Child Rights & SDGs and other UN SDGs-related processes. Tamara participated in those consultations together with 448 other children from 25 countries aged 6 to 17 years old. The children submitted existing evidence relating to the theme of sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic & SDGs, especially looking at the SDGs under review at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) this summer. This information helped to guide the UN Human Rights Office in writing their report.
