World Vision Lanka is working with Action2015 to give voice to Civil Society concerns about development planning and Climate Change.

Action2015 is a coalition of over 1950 organisations around the world committed to fighting for a better future. Its objective is to work together to bring about fundamental change in how we tackle poverty, inequality and climate change.

The Action2015 global campaign is particularly focused on voicing people’s concerns at two important key global events scheduled for 2015. One is the meeting of Heads of State from 25th - 27th September 2015 in New York where the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be replaced by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The other is the UNFCCC COP21 scheduled from 30th November to 11th December 2015 in Paris where important decisions will be taken on climate change.

As a partner of Action2015, the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) Sri Lanka is working in coalition with the Human and Community Development Youth Organization (HCDYO), Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA), Mass Media Forum (MMF), Nirmanee Development Foundation (NDF) and World Vision Lanka (WVL) to carry out the Sri Lanka campaign.

The main objective of the campaign is to bring civil society views and concerns on poverty, inequality and climate change to key government leaders. By doing this it is visualized that these concerns will be addressed in national development plans. At the international level it is expected that these concerns will be addressed in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be adopted in 2015.

Key recommendations from over 40,000 people including experts in the field, local officials, faith leaders, everyday people and children, living in rural and remote locations across Sri Lanka. Gathered from community discussions and events held around the country, the recommendations address issues of critical importance to the people. Participants were made aware of the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda and given the opportunity to share their views and strategies that enable the realisation of the 17 goals.

Action2015 has formulated a demand statement which was presented to the President of Sri Lanka, in order to obtain political will and commitment towards addressing these recommendations.
