A hundred of children aged three to five from local kindergartens joyfully showed their talents and knowledge at a festival held in Muong Cha district, which lies on mountainous areas in the northern Dien Bien province.
The children were nervous at first but they were confident to participate in three rounds of the festival. After they had their health checked at the first round, they sang, danced or read poems at the second round. The final round was knowledge quizzes.
The five-year-old Giang Thi Van said, “I am so happy to win the first prize at the festival. The gifts that I received are so cool.”
The festival was regarded a chance for the children to develop comprehensively, especially their communication skills in Vietnamese, because most of them are ethnic minorities and the national language is not their mother tongue. The event also helped their parents realise how the importance of early childhood education.
“Parents were very happy to take their children to the festival. Though some families lived far, they left home from dawn and bought their children at the event on time. The festival plays a positive role in raising awareness of each community member about early childhood education. Also, the children were more confident at the event, especially those learning at village-based schools,” said Ms. Le Thi San, Principal of Sa Long Kindergarten.
The event was organised by World Vision’s Muong Cha Area Development Programme and local authorities. Similar activities will be promoted in the coming time.
