Zakaria suffered immensely because of the Syrian war. He lost his feet after he and his brother were unknowingly playing near a landmine. This resulted with the amputation of his feet, but this was only the beginning of a long road to recovery.

Following the 6.7 magnitude quake that struck the north-eastern part of Mindanao, Surigao City was placed under state of calamity on February 11th. The office of civil defence says that more than 1,000 families in 58 villages have been affected.
