2023 Annual Report - Ethiopia
This report covers the work and impact of World Vision Ethiopia from 1st October 2022 to 30th September 2023. During this period, our transformative projects reached over 8.5 million people including 6 million children showcasing our impactful efforts in transforming the lives of vulnerable children and communities across Ethiopia.

Defying all odds to create a ‘Better Future’
Yvonne is an 18-year-old girl who lives in Huye District. She is the first born in a family of four girls. While that is a blessing, her father did not think so as he still held on to regressive views of the boy child being more valuable than the girl child. He constantly harassed their mother for not giving birth to sons and also refused to take responsibility of providing for his children. Yvonne’s family was already living in poverty and in disputes but this worsened when they had the fourth girl. She was born with mobility challenges and deaf-blindness.

Displaced and distraught, multiple generations pay the cost of conflict in Sudan
Dr. Mesfin Loha, World Vision South Sudan Country Director, shares his encounter with a Sudanese refugee family while visiting the transit centre for displaced people in Renk county. The centre currently hosts at least 1,000 new arrivals daily.

A Relentless Struggle in Southern Angola: The South West Angola Emergency Response Project relief amid food insecurity
Carolina is a mother, one of many who, in the context of the emergency, has been working to get around the challenging situation she finds herself in. Aged 42 and with her five children, she lives in the community of Bata-Bata, Humpata municipality in Huíla. In the short rainy season that is recorded in the south, Carolina works on her small plot, and in the dry season, which is most of the seasonal period, she does informal jobs to make ends meet for her children. The short rainy season is not enough for planting to be prosperous, and with the economic crisis worsening in the country, families are seeing episodes of food shortages become increasingly dramatic.

Displaced Ukrainian children face a new way of life after fleeing from war and adapting to a new environment
Two years on, millions of displaced Ukrainian children like Victoria, Dmytro and Leviza are still in need of continuing support as they integrate in their new living environment, as they struggle in coping from home schooling and adjust in a new reality. However, their resilience and positivity are helping them rise above these challenges.
