Price Shocks: Economic gains masking a growing hunger and malnutrition crisis
World Vision's annual price survey analyses global food prices over the past three years. This Price Shocks report is a continuation of our 2021 and 2022 studies with findings showing a slight dip in the highest costs of living for some while others remain at previously marked crisis levels. This year's findings continue to underscore the uneven recovery from the socioeconomic shocks from COVID-19, inflation, and extreme weather and indicates a disparity of food prices, both in the current cost of the basket of 10 common food items and in the year-on-year comparisons. We provide insight into the year-on-year changes and share recommendations on mitigation for various audiences.

Helping to earn the money for school
In Diaso, Ghana, a cocoa farmer named Francis tells us that seeing the effect child labour had on his children’s education helped the family find other solutions. He’s been farming cocoa since 1998, and at first, relied heavily on his children to help work on the farm. “But through the interventions and education given to us by World Vision, I don’t let my children work on the farm anymore. Now I work on the farm with my wife and also hire the services of elderly men to help.”

Apesar dos esforços e avanços significativos dos últimos anos, ainda é uma realidade o grande défice que existe na educação em Angola. Os meninos começam a primária cheio de sonhos, mas infelizmente as condições em sua volta são insuficientes para que possam ter a capacidade de escolher o seu futuro, deixando-os a mercê do destino, facto, que é ainda mais complicado principalmente para as meninas, que têm de enfrentar uma série de tabus e preconceitos para vencer o estigma ao redor da problemática do género, para lá, da dificuldade ao aceder à uma educação de qualidade. A World Vision Angola está a contribuir para que muitas crianças e jovens acedam à uma educação de qualidade e com dignidade em vários pontos do País.
