Girls married off to reduce financial burden
In Bangladesh, approximately 51% of girls are married before their 18th birthday and 22% are married before the age of 15. Child marriage is more common in rural areas where 60% of girls are married before age 18, compared to 55% in urban areas. The minimum legal age for marriage in Bangladesh is 18 years for girls; however, the Child Marriage Restraint Act 2017 includes a loophole where a court can allow child marriage in ‘special cases’.

Price Shocks: Economic gains masking a growing hunger and malnutrition crisis
World Vision's annual price survey analyses global food prices over the past three years. This Price Shocks report is a continuation of our 2021 and 2022 studies with findings showing a slight dip in the highest costs of living for some while others remain at previously marked crisis levels. This year's findings continue to underscore the uneven recovery from the socioeconomic shocks from COVID-19, inflation, and extreme weather and indicates a disparity of food prices, both in the current cost of the basket of 10 common food items and in the year-on-year comparisons. We provide insight into the year-on-year changes and share recommendations on mitigation for various audiences.

Brussels 7 Conference: Donor pledges fall short of urgent need to respond to worsening humanitarian situation in Syria and host countries
16 June 2023 – Yesterday, donors came together at the 7th edition of the Brussels Conference in support of Syria and the region, pledging 5.6 billion euros in grants for the Syria crisis response, with only a tenth of the necessary funding being secured for 2023.
