JWG Children Online Safety
Essential Tips for Children, Parents and Caregivers on Staying Safe on the Internet
Over the recent years, internet access in the occupied Palestinian territory has increased exponentially and as a result, Palestinian children are now spending more time online than ever before. The COVID-19 pandemic, with school closures and the development of online learning approaches, has accelerated this trend.
While the internet creates huge opportunities for children in terms of education and entertainment, it also generates serious risks. Cyberbullying and other forms of peer-to-peer violence are a constant risk on social media or instant messaging platforms. Many websites and social media platforms do not do everything they should to protect children from being exposed to sensitive material, pornography, hate speech and violent content. Some companies have also adapted their marketing to target children, leading to excessive time online that negatively impacts their family and social lives.
But simple measures can keep children safe online. For Safer Internet Day, several children are sharing their tips and advises for children and for their parents on how to stay safe on the internet. Watch the below videos and check our Facebook page for more information.
