Sustainable farming empowers Moeun Sameth’s family amidst climate change
This is the best adjective to qualify the weather patterns in Cambodia’s modern history. The Southeast Asian country recently experienced record-high temperatures in May, as a result of an El Niño event. This meteorological phenomenon generated historical droughts, directly affecting a population that relies heavily on agriculture and fisheries (25% of GDP, 49% of employment of the country’s labor force)1. In the communities served by World Vision International - Cambodia alone, over 360,000 individuals were directly affected by the droughts.

World Vision phases out 4 Area Programmes
For the past 15 years, World Vision’s Area Programmes (APs) empowered 103 villages from 15 communes of the four districts, by fostering local ownership and sustainability. A participatory approach involving community members in planning, implementing, and evaluating projects ensured that the initiatives were tailored to the community’s specific needs and priorities. During that period, 24,073 most vulnerable children and their families received the tools to overcome poverty, through projects addressing malnutrition, limited health and sanitation access, improving education, empowering youth, and protecting children from abuse and exploitation.
