I Save My Money in SIPANDIK for My Future

Friday, October 24, 2014

Sukirman is just a fifth grade student but he's already dreaming of being a teacher. Sukirman is thoughtful, both with his parents and teachers and likes to hang out with friends. But of course he never forgets to study hard.

Sukirman is not only active in school but also in a Saving Campaign, an activity initiated by Wahana Visi Indonesia, a partner of World Vision, in Norh Halmahera in cooperation with Credit Union Saro Nivero.

Through this campaign, Sukirman and friends in Gotalamo primary school are asked to ‘feed' their piggybanks every day by saving at least Rp. 1.000. Sukirman has learned how to save and manage his own money.

"I like to save my money because I want to be a successful man. I dream of being a teacher, so I can teach students like what Mrs. Kartini does every day in class," said Sukirman.

Sukirman's father, Muhammad and his wife encourage their son to save money. Muhammad who also participated in the Household Economy Management, is motivated to save 10-30% of his copra and nutmeg's sales revenue for Sukirman's future. Muhammad and his wife hope that Sukirman will continue his education to Magister level like his older siblings did in Yogyakarta.

"We save money for Sukirman's college tuition. Although we live in a hut, our children must continue their education, no matter what," Muhammad's wife said.

Sukirman save his money in an Education Saving program (SIPANDIK). SIPANDIK is a kind of education saving where the customers can only withdraw the money when they graduate from senior high school.

Sukirman continues to save his pocket money so he won't have difficulties funding his education in the future.
