Monday, July 21, 2014

Three former Wahana Visi Indonesia's Registered Children get very special opportunity to tell their struggle in obtaining education when they become guest speakers of Kick Andy show, the popular talk show which airs on Metro TV on Friday (18/7). The three inspirational youths are Teus Tabuni (20), Yacob Obe Tusala (22), and Marthen Sambo. They are invited to share their experience directly on television after their stories are among other stories compiled in a book titled "Little Canary from Kalabahi" that is published by Wahana Visi Indonesia and Kompas publication.

Following the talk show, Teus and Yacob get scholarship to finish their bachelor degree from Eka Tjipta foundation, while Marthen who has secured his bachelor degree gets books that will be donated to children in remote Papua.

"Thank you for brothers in Wahana Visi who have written my story and filmed me so that I am known and got scholarship," says Teus. With the scholarship, Teus determines to return to university and finish bachelor degree.

Yacob is not disappointed although the scholarship comes at the time when he almost finish his bachelor degree. Instead, he is very grateful to receive the scholarship.

"If I got the scholarship earlier, there was no struggle in my life. I am very grateful for each opportunity I have gotten. If I get more money, I will share with children study group in my village," says Yacob

The scholarship will make me to focus on the effort to finish my study. "I will concentrate to make proposal and finish my mini thesis."

Like Teus and Yacob, Marthen come from very poor family in a village in South Sulawesi. He is the fourth child of 9 siblings. This condition made him almost impossible to study at the university without scholarship. His brilliant brain has helped him to get scholarship to study at the university. However, it did not meant that everything can go easily.

The hard challenge Marthen faced during his study has made him promise that if he could finish his study, "I will help people (with couple difficulties) like me." The promise has been realized when he now works to help children in remote Papua.
