Reaching the Isolated Wana Sub Village

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Wana is an isolated sub village in Ulujadi sub district in Palu, Central Sulawesi. This sub village is situated in a hilly area that can only be accessed by walking two kilometers, or taking a  bu "special motorcycle" from Salena, the nearest sub village below.

As it is very difficult to access, Wana has very limited facilities. There is a school building in Wana where children study, however after graduating from the elementary school, they have to go to the nearest village below.

Wana children do not have strength to walk down in the morning to reach junior high school and to go up in the afternoon to go home every day.

Most students try to find a family that is willing to accommodate them in their house. Because of the great challenge, there is only one child in Wana that has finished junior high school.

Wahana Visi Indonesia serves people in Wana by providing cadres with training to enable them to address child well being issues. To practice a healthy lifestyle, Wahana Visi encourages people to build toilets. Out of 45 families, there are 8 families who have committed to building toilets, 5 are completed so far.

To fulfill the need of clean water, people in Wana fetch water that flows from a small pipe from the water source above.
