This article reports on the launch of the School Meal Program in Menkao, initiated by World Vision DRC on May 13, 2025. It’s a key initiative in the fight against child hunger and malnutrition in the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially in schools. The program aims to provide students with a balanced daily meal to improve their health, focus, and academic performance. Supported by the World Food Programme and other partners, it forms part of a national multisectoral strategy that combines nutrition, education, and community development.

In an era defined by the twin imperatives of environmental protection and economic resilience, one of the pertinent yet less explored questions is: Can we harness the power that is already around us? In East Asia, where both rural traditions and rapid modernisation coexist, the answer to this question is not only yes – it’s a solution waiting to get the needed acceleration.

In 2024, we reached 17.9 million people, including 9.5 million children, and responded to over 16 emergencies across the region. From food security and health to protection and education, our work has brought tangible relief and hope to families affected by crisis.

Zambia faces an urgent climate and environmental crisis. Each year, the country loses over 172,000 hectares of forest, driven by poverty, unsustainable agriculture, charcoal production, and illegal logging. More than 5.2 million hectares of land are now degraded, undermining food production and pushing families deeper into poverty. At the same time, climate change is accelerating soil erosion, unpredictable rainfall, and declining fertility are reducing agricultural productivity, while increasing the cost of living and migration pressures in rural communities.
