Professional Apprenticeships

Vision:

The vision of the Professional Development Programmes (PDP) is to attract, strengthen and retain junior/entry-level talent within World Vision International.

Mission:

The Programmes are designed for junior/entry-level professionals to apply knowledge and experiences acquired in undergraduate and graduate education for the development of practical skills and talents applicable to the non-profit world.

The goals of these programmes are to

  • empower junior/entry-level professionals by providing meaningful learning opportunities to engage in hands-on project work within World Vision International.
  • equip professionals with relevant skills and tools for success.
  • develop the next generation of organisational leaders.

The Professional Apprentice Programme is a partnership that WVI has initiated with Fuller Theological Seminary (M.A., Intercultural Studies) and Eastern University (M.A., International Development) for the best and brightest graduates from their programmes each year. This Professional Apprenticeship is a two-year development programme, designed to provide students with an opportunity to work alongside technical professionals, gain experience, exposure and build valuable NGO knowledge all while strategically meeting ministry goals and organizational needs. Apprentices will have the opportunity to gain insightful NGO and field exposure while working alongside, supporting and collaborating with World Vision ministry teams.

Apprentices are placed in one of World Vision International’s U.S. based offices where they will assist with project work, research and assessment in ministry sectors such as:

  • Child Development and Rights
  • Education and Life Skills
  • Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs
  • Gender and Development
  • Peacebuilding
  • Spiritual Nurture of Children


Project Work

Examples of possible work projects include:

Strategy focused:

      • Quantitative/qualitative data analysis
      • Assistance in project proposal development
      • Evaluating reports or projects


Field focused:

    • Operational research projects
    • Monitoring pilot projects
    • Evaluative or anthropological studies


Programme Logistics & Qualifications

Duration: 
Two-year programme within a department based upon mutual selection process

Location: Apprentices will be U.S. based in either:

  • Los Angeles, California
  • Federal Way, Washington
  • New York, New York
  • Washington D.C.

*Although this apprenticeship does not guarantee a permanent placement within the organisation, it offers a first step, provides two years of learning, professional experience and great skill building. 


Characteristics/Eligibility

Eligibility:

  • Graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary with M.A., Intercultural Studies or Eastern University with M.A., International Development by end of Summer Quarter by end of Summer Quarter
  • 3.25 GPA or above upon completion of their Master's degree
  • October 1 start date
  • U.S. citizens or permitted to work in the United States
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and hard working
  • Strong biblical understanding and commitment to the mission of World Vision
  • Takes initiative and leadership responsibilities with ease
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from different cultures in verbal, written or virtual forms
