Better Christmas, More Hope

For Gogo Anastasia Ndlovu (54), a pair of goats she received as a pass on project initiated by World Vision Lupane ADP have been a life changer as they have multiplied to seven within a year.

Gogo (granny) Ndlovu of Madojwa village of Gwamba Ward in Lupane District was one of the households that benefited from a goat pass on project last year.

“I would like to thank World Vision for the goats. We have started selling the goats and we are using the proceeds to pay school fees,” said Gogo Ndlovu. “These goats always give birth to twins and two of the will soon be delivering and this will bring the total to more than 10.”

Apart from selling the goats to get cash for school fees, Gogo Ndlovu said they also got manure. She said they did not milk the goats because it would deny the kids of milk especially given that they are two at a time.

Gogo Ndlovu said she looks after three children, including Menias (aged 6) who is a registered child.

“Menias is now in grade zero (pre-school) and next year will be in grade one and we will continue to sell the goats to pay for their fees,” said the granny who said had just paid fees for one of the grandchildren on the day that the World Vision team visited her homestead.

She is now expected to pass on the two goats to another household, which would also give other households a chance to own livestock.

“Our intentions are to buy cattle with proceeds from the sale of these goats. We have seen a great change in my life from the time I was selling chickens to pay fees. You have to sell many chickens to pay fees, but with goats it better,” added Gogo Ndlovu.

Many more people are going to benefit from the pass on scheme and as Beauty Mlilo, a World Vision Development Facilitator in the ward said, this will change their lives.

“With time, the people’s lives in the entire community will change,” said Ms Mlilo. Signs of change are already showing with Gogo Ndlovu’s growing herd of goats. They have also been advised to plan on how they would get chemicals for the goats either by selling chickens or goats so that they eliminate losses due to diseases or illnesses.
