Enthusiasm for Learning in Malalan

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

The Child Learning Group (CLG), Malalan village was formed by an agreement between local villagers and Wahana Visi Indonesia, a partner of World Vision in Parimo in December 2013. The CLG is usually conducted every Monday and Wednesday at 2 p.m. The children are taught by youth from the Child Forum group.

Because there was no permanent location for them to study together, they had to learn in various places like the seashore, under a Ketapang tree, or the terrace of someone's home.

The number of students who come to CLG sometimes decreases because of simple things like a lack of notebooks for them to use to study.

However, Child Learning Group Activity has brought many benefits for local children of Malalan village.

"The children are now brave to perform in front of the class. I'm also happy to assist this learning activity because they have changed a lot," said Mastin, 30, a mother of three.

"Children learn about how to harmonize with others. They look more excited to study here," said Irmawati, 23, a mother of one of the children.

The problem of finding place for CLG was finally solved. A local resident of Malalan lent his deserted house for this activity so the children could study there. However, Malalan's people still have an initiative to buy a house for children to study themselves.

By selling their handmade shredded meat, they are collecting money to buy a new house so that the CLG can continue on in the future.
