I can educate my friends

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

In mid April 2015, Mia, 17, and her friends in Information Source Peer (SSI) Child Forum joined in life skill training in Wamena. The training itself is a creative one using games so Mia and her friends enjoy the activity while learning the material at the same time.

"I learned many things here," said Mia, the second daughter of six siblings.

As a teenager, Mia realises that she has to learn many things. By joining in skills training, Mia has learned how to become involved in an organisation and become a leader.

In the training, Mia got information about the HIV virus and ways to prevent transmission, which she can share with her colleagues and parents.

"I have to be an example for others. I want to spread the information to my friends and family," said the student who enjoys learning math.

Since she was very active in the event conducted last April, Mia was appointed to be chief of Child Forum. With her position, Mia hopes that the government could assist the forum and support all of their activities.
