Khamthor is 44 years old and has six children. He has been a child sponsorship volunteer with World Vision for three years and is responsible for looking after the 77 sponsor children in his village. He decided to become a volunteer as he is committed to helping local children have a better future. He is responsible for monitoring the children and reporting on their development. He also got a chance to attending the training from World Vision to strength and developed his skills to better understand developing work in his community, especially learned how to write the report.

“I am very happy being a volunteer. I used to be a teacher and want to look after the children in my village. I would like to help them to develop themselves and to see the importance of education for building their future. I want to do as much as I can for them,” commented Khamthor when asked about his motivations to volunteer with World Vision.

His hopes are coming true as he reports that attendance at school has increased. Many children were previously unable to attend school as their parents could not afford to pay for their uniforms and books. Now they can as World Vision has provided them with uniforms and books and has also given the school additional reading and sports materials. Khamtor sees that the parents are happy to have their children at school and reports many changes in the children themselves. “They have developed quickly and I can see that their self confidence has grown. They are now able to talk in front of people and share ideas with their friends at school,” he commented.

He can also see that their health has improved and children are no longer missing days at school due to illness caused by drinking unclean water. His village now has a pump and the families have clean water to drink and cook with. They also have access to healthcare services and basic medication and World Vision is working with the community to improve family incomes through improved farming practices.

Khamthor is pleased that things have improved and is grateful to the people who have helped his community to develop. “On behalf of children and community I would like to thank the sponsors who support our children and our community. I hope that they are healthy, lucky and that their family is happy,” he said.
