The horrors of the South Sudan conflict

Friday, May 30, 2014

These children are living a nightmare: fleeing their homes in Malakal, South Sudan, for a UN compound 2 km away.

As they bolted to the base the children and their families evaded armed men who hunted them like animals. Dead bodies were strewn on their escape route. All these children have lost relatives, neighbours or friends.

These photos were taken at World Vision's Child Friendly Space (CFS) at the cramped UN camp, a safe place for children. “This place is very important because it lets the children wash their minds of what took place," says Gatwech Bithow Ker, CFS staff.
