DR congo: How Jérôme, a Neighbourhood Chief, Became a Model of Positive Masculinity for His Community
This human-interest story highlights the inspiring transformation of Jérôme, a neighbourhood chief from the rural commune of LUIZA in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Once guided by traditional gender norms that placed the entire domestic burden on his wife, Jérôme’s perspective changed after attending a positive masculinity training organised by World Vision with support from the European Union and the World Food Programme. Motivated by the lessons he learned, Jérôme began sharing household and agricultural responsibilities, leading to improved family health, increased income, and renewed harmony in his home. His actions have since inspired other men in his community to adopt more equitable roles within their families.
