Joy of new baby not felt in South Sudan

Nyanut has just given birth to her first baby, a boy. They both survivied the birth, but because they live in South Sudan, a country with the highest maternal mortality rate in the world (26 women from every thousand die either in childbirth or shortly after), their struggle has just begun.

World Vision communications specialist Melany Markham spoke with Nyanut and other young women and staff at Kuajok Hospital in Warrap state (north central South Sudan), where World Vision operates the maternity ward.
