In a touching demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) has donated 50 bicycles to World Vision Zambia’s Strong Girls Strong Zambia campaign. In December 2023, World Vision Zambia, in partnership with World Bicycle Relief Zambia, launched a fundraiser to buy 2,000 bicycles for vulnerable girls to shorten their commute to school. During the launch, ZANACO committed and pledged 175,000 Kwacha towards the purchase of 50 bicycles to support the campaign.

Speaking to the audience at the donation event, ZANACO Chief Executive Officer, Ms Mukwandi Chibesakunda, reaffirmed the bank's unwavering dedication to creating a positive influence beyond banking. She emphasized the crucial significance of education and mobility in disrupting the cycle of poverty and empowering young girls to achieve their utmost potential.

“We firmly believe that education is the key to empowerment and that every girl, regardless of her circumstances, deserves access to quality education. The provision of bicycles for these young girls at Kashima Secondary School in Mufumbwe is more than just a means of transportation,” she said. “It is a symbol of hope, independence, and progress. These bicycles will enable them to travel to and from school with ease and empower them to break free from the cycle of early marriages and pursue their dreams.”

She said the bank understands the profound impact that education can have on individuals and society. The country's future is invested in these girls' education.

World Vision Zambia National Director Mr. John Hasse expressed his gratitude and said the Strong Girls Strong Zambia kickoff year was a great success because of ZANACO’s support.

Mr. Hasse said the commitment to collaboration is one of World Vision’s values, “We are Partners’’. Therefore, World Vision values the power of collaboration and remains dedicated to partnering with organizations like ZANACO to create lasting, positive change in communities.

With the wheels of change set in motion, the partnership between ZANACO Bank and World Vision serves as a beacon, inspiring others to join the mission of social impact and community empowerment, which provides practical and sustainable solutions through the education support of 15,000 vulnerable girls in different parts of Zambia.
