Join us and reflect on Vanuatu's journey to recovery six months after Cyclone Pam as we look through the haunting images of devastation to the beautiful smiles of hope!

Not only is Vanuatu’s reputation as the happiest country in the world clear to see, but so too is the resilience of Vanuatu and the families that live here.

Over the past six months World Vision has assisted 55,000 people with their recovery through supporting Government food distributions and providing families with basic household items like tarpaulins, saucepans, solar lights and garden tools so they can regrow and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Cyclone Pam. 

Despite the devastation, communities began regrowing crops and rebuilding homes almost immediately after the dangers of Cyclone Pam had past.

The results – crops of fresh island food flourish meaning families no longer rely on emergency food distributions of rice and noodles and tinned meat, while World Vision distributed tool kits meant families were able to rebuild homes and gardens quickly. 

The rapid recovery hides the long road ahead for the country of Vanuatu where major infrastructure was seriously damaged and many people’s livelihoods including those reliant on tourism will take years to recover.
