Building Secure Livelihoods (BSL)

The Building Secure Livelihoods (BSL) Project in Lao PDR provides a comprehensive pathway out of poverty for families to improve their livelihoods to levels that are productive and resilient enough to survive a range of shocks and stresses.

"My child is healthy now! I will try my best to practice what I have learned and I will tell other mothers who still do not understand about their child’s nutrition to practice these ways to get a better life for women in our village."

Builiding Secure Livelihoods

The project model uses a series of approaches to ensure households have economic and financial knowledge and support, and an understanding of risk and how to plan for the future. Families learn how to increase productivity and profitability, alongside sustainable management of all their resources (natural, social and economic.). We establish and strengthen a savings culture, and financial inclusion through savings groups for nutrition. We help families – and whole communities – to be more resilient with Community-Based Disaster Risk Management. We promote development of Local Value Chains and Market Systems that work for the rural producers.
