A Fisherman’s Journey of Faith, Patience, and Victory over TB
Meet Ase Paho, a fisherman from Mabudawana Community on Daru Island in Papua New Guinea, and a father and grandfather who has long supported his family through the sea. His life changed when a serious illness was later diagnosed as tuberculosis in his bone, forcing him to stop fishing and leaving his family struggling without income. During his treatment, his grandchildren paused school to care for him while relatives provided food support.
With care from health workers and support through World Vision Papua New Guinea and partners, Ase began treatment in October 2024 and remained committed despite difficult side effects. Encouragement from medical staff and community outreach helped him stay on course.
By March, Ase completed treatment and fully recovered. Now healthy again, he shares his experience to raise awareness about TB, encouraging early testing and treatment while hoping to return to fishing and support his family’s future.
