Sharing for sustainability

Thursday, October 1, 2015

After one full year of thorough and careful preparation, on 30th September 2015, a Workshop on sharing best practices and models was successfully held in Thanh Hoa province.

The purpose of this workshop is to bring World Vision’s evidence-based efficient approaches to local partners’ knowledge in order to call for their commitment to sustaining and replicating the best practices and models in both target and non-target areas of World Vision.

Area Development Programme staffs set up their display corner before the workshop commences.

Participating in the workshop were over 60 people, including representatives from Thanh Hoa Department of Foreign Affairs (DoFA) and People’s Committee; government, non-government and civil society partners at provincial and district levels; key members of District Programme Management Boards; and World Vision staff.

“World Vision has always played an important role in building a better life for local people and children through their innovative models,” confirmed Nguyen Song Hoan, Director of Thanh Hoa DoFA, in his opening speech.

Products of Micro-Finance Unit’s beneficiaries were presented at the workshop as evidence of success.

Fourteen models displayed at the workshop were grouped according to sectors of education, water and sanitation, micro-finance, disaster risks management, child protection and participation, and integrated area development programme. With this separateness, participants were able to select the sector of their most concern to have in-depth discussion on model implementation and provide their recommendations for the development of action plans that will pave way for more fruitful cooperation between World Vision and local government and partners.

Sharing on Disaster Risks Reduction and Resilient Livelihoods models under AusAID-funded CATREND project captures partners’ full attention.

“We look forward to integrating our models with Government’s programmes at all level. This is critical to optimize our resources and bring bigger impacts to needy communities, especially children,” concluded Dang Van Bai, Manager of all World Vision’s programmes in Thanh Hoa province.

In Thanh Hoa, World Vision carries out area development programmes and special projects in ten districts, including Nhu Xuan, Quan Hoa, Lang Chanh, Cam Thuy, Ba Thuoc, Thuong Xuan, Quan Son, Nhu Thanh, Hoang Hoa and Quang Xuong, altogether making World Vision’s interventions the most outstretched among other NGOs present in the province.

According to recently revealed 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations, the partnership between World Vision and Thanh Hoa province will contribute to global effort in obtaining almost half of these goals*.

* The goals include: no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action.
