Marie Bettings

Program Director for Born on Time, World Vision Canada

Marie Bettings is the Program Director for Born on Time, the first public-private partnership dedicated to the prevention of preterm birth, now the leading cause of death in children under five. Marie has held leadership roles in programme management, strategic communications and donor engagement, spanning nearly 15 years in the international development sector. Her current role focuses on the successful coordination and implementation of activities across Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Mali, in partnership with World Vision Canada, Plan International Canada, Save the Children Canada, the Government of Canada, and Johnson & Johnson. This five-year, $30 million, programme aims to empower women and adolescent girls, as well as to engage men, boys and community leaders to tackle gender equality barriers to maternal and newborn health, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Born on Time targets risk factors related to unhealthy lifestyle/behaviours, maternal infections, inadequate nutrition and limited access to contraception that can lead to babies being born too soon. Our programme supports women and adolescent girls before, during, and after pregnancies by strengthening health systems with training, equipment, and supplies to provide quality, responsive care.
