Livelihoods and Resilience

What we want to do:

We want to increase the number of children in Zimbabwe who are well nourished. We are working towards this by increasing household resilience, food security and nutrition.

What's the problem?

Depleted natural resources, dependence on rain-fed agriculture, poor access to improved agricultural practices in response to climate change, poor access to input and output markets and affordable finance.

How is World Vision addressing the issues?

Through training and the provision of tools, we are partnering with communities to increase their crop and livestock production and helping communities to come together and work as a unit. We are also equipping families with skills and resources to participate in and/or start their own income-generating activities to increase and diversify their income streams, improving their abilities to provide for their families’ needs.

Is what World Vision doing working?

In 2020, a total of 149,094 vulnerable children were reached through livelihoods programming with over 110,000 reached through emergency response and safety nets. More than 15,138 children, part of the World Vision sponsorship programme, were reached through livelihoods interventions in sponsorship-funded Area Programmes alone.
