Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health

World Vision partners with community members, faith leaders, and health systems to strengthen maternal, newborn, and child health services, promote positive family relationships, and address stigma and discrimination that can prevent women and caregivers from accessing care. Particular attention is given to supporting vulnerable populations, including ethnic minorities and those facing the greatest barriers to quality health services.

Our maternal, newborn, and child health programming includes strengthening health facilities, supporting community-based and family-centred care, improving access to essential health and nutrition commodities, and building the capacity of frontline health workers.

Maternal and Newborn Health

World Vision implements a range of evidence-based approaches that strengthen maternal, newborn, and child health by improving health practices, increasing access to quality services, and supporting families and communities to thrive. These approaches can be adapted to local contexts and are often implemented in combination to maximise impact.

Citizen Voice and Action

World Vision also strengthens health systems through Citizen Voice and Action (CVA), a social accountability approach that brings communities and local government together to identify gaps, improve the quality of health services, and advocate for sustainable change.

Timed and Targeted Counselling

Timed and Targeted counselling (TTC) equips community health workers and volunteers to provide timely, evidence-based counselling to pregnant women and caregivers throughout pregnancy and early childhood. By delivering key health and nutrition messages at critical stages, TTC supports families to adopt practices that improve maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes.

Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancies

Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancies (HTSP) supports women, couples, and families to make informed, voluntary decisions about the timing and spacing of pregnancies. Through counselling and access to family planning information and services, HTSP helps improve health outcomes for women, newborns, infants, and children while respecting informed choice, fertility intentions, and desired family size.
