Venezuelan migrants cross the Darien jungle

El Tapón del Darién (The Darien Gap at the Colombia-Panama border) is one of the most dangerous migratory crossings in the world.

It is a dense jungle that is extremely difficult and risky to traverse because of its geography and because it is an area dominated by human trafficking, drug trafficking, gangs and illicit groups.

In August 2022, 30,055 people crossed from Colombia to Panama, 76% of the people were Venezuelan migrants and 15% are girls and boys.

Despite the huge risks, many families assume the risk as they feel they lack alternatives to provide for the needs of their children.
